Time to pick up some plates Olympic weight lifting for your room garage? What kind should you buy ? Bumper plates rubber or steel plates ? Where should you get ? Should you buy new plates , or should you look bumper plates used ? Are they expensive to ship , or must wait for free shipping? I lived through it myself. I've already done all the research for my garage gym, but I will do again for this article. So we'll see if I can make the purchase easier for some of you guys and girls Olympic plates.

What are Bumper Plates ?

Bumper plates ( or only bumpers) are Olympic weightlifting plates , usually made of rubber , if a load bar can be placed safely without damaging the plates or the elevator (or just on the floor most family situations garage and gym) . Bumpers are available in both pounds and kilograms in the same weight range than normal cast iron or steel plate weightlifting . Bumper plates competition are color coded by weight while training stops are usually just black.

Bumper plates or steel plates ?

So you choose plates or sheets of iron / steel foundry classic stickers? Well, it depends. If money is very tight, the weight of the steel could be the way forward . The steel plates are cheaper and easier to find second hand. Check Craigslist and you will be amazed at how many people are selling their used plates and bars from local sports stores . Many times , the weights are practically new . The price of new steel plates are already about 60-70% of decent bumper to find dishes used can mean significant savings. You can also get lucky and find bumper plates used .

Another option for a tight budget is rubber coated plates . The cost is comparable to steel, however, do not think for a second that are similar to the bumper . They are still only steel plates only have a protective layer . Rubber plates are generally box gyms have these days , probably because they are quieter and less sensitive than the old iron of the school. They are not intended to be lowered from above as a stop plate is if Olympic lifts will be a part of their training, they would avoid steel and rubber coated plates optional .

Why they are better than steel bumpers ? Firstly, they are safer . More sure that they will not rush through your base or crack and chip if you accidentally drop it . Consider that if you can not safely stop a £ 45 steel plate while the transportation to and from the bar without having to worry about what he would do to your soil , you can not obviously fall from a press or shoulder height in a boot failure.

With so many people these days use the Olympic lifts in their training ( Crossfit used the same boot mode) , it makes sense to go for the original plates bumper so that the lifts are an option for you more later, even if you are not immediately required level of fitness .

There is another reason why many people prefer stickers on steel plates. It may seem a little silly, but for those who have worked with steel ( or do) you will understand. There is noise . Steel is very noisy in the bar. Even in relatively gentle movements , these giant plates hitting each other is certainly strong. When you leave the bar down , even a few inches above the floor or rack is strong as hell. Bumper not clang and fuck like that. Just something to consider.

Mix and match dishes

You do not need to go to 100% with the bumper. I have a combination of steel and ceilings in my garage gym. While my 35 and 45 are all stickers plates , steel plates using even smaller . 25 years and steel plates smaller will never touch the ground so that no matter what they are made of. In addition, bumpers £ 10 and £ 15 standard tend to deform ( taco ) if authorized to carry the weight of falling too many times. They are too thin to take the same violence as the large plates of 45 lbs .

Another option for the technical Olympic plates are plates . These are one-piece solid plastic plates to be really abused . They are mostly available in 5 , 10, and plates 15 pounds. If you are new to the Olympic lifts, they allow you to obtain the form below with little weight of extra weight, but you still have the feeling of plates in the bar. They are not cheap per pound , but they should not have more than one or two pairs of technical plating.

"I want bumper plates! "

I'll go over the different types and brands of bumper plates and go over what I discovered about the best places to buy each type of basic prices, transportation costs , and general observations and comments .

Standard bumper black . There are a number of manufacturers out there , but I reduced it to three different brands : Rogue - HG , Troy VTX bumper plates and Hi -Temp .

- Troy VTX bumper plates are probably what you will find most of the time in a sporting goods store or shop equipment used. They are reasonably priced and good reviews are pretty decent overall . It is one of the few options in this price range available in color . Search Amazon for a deal on them. Many sellers Troy VTX products.

Bumpers - Hi -Temp is solid and the price is very good too. They are on the bumpers thicker side available, but unless its elevators require over 400 pounds on the bar , I think everything will go well with the thickness of the plates. Many websites selling high temperature. Snape was cheaper than I could find anywhere else , and shipping is included in the price . These are the only base defenses that I know that are made in the USA . FYI , bumper plates high temperature are the most sought for the stop plate by the brand.

- Rogue HG shocks are my favorite for a basic black bumper choice. I have some of these plates and love . They are a bit cheaper than the Hi - Time, however, are a bit thinner and much cooler air. They have a 3 year warranty (25 years and older) and shipping are included in the price. Read some reviews here . These are definitely the best option to put up with the bumper .

Competition ( and training ) plates : bumper plates that Eleiko Olympic competitions, Pendlay Elites or Crossfit competition Rogue plates are thinner , more durable , and much more. Versions of "training" of these judgments more or less, they are the same card, but not calibrated . So anyway , compared to a standard bumper , which are much more expensive.

I raised plaques competition so rarely that I have nothing to give an opinion on them. Eleiko used in the Olympic Games, the uses and abuses of Crossfit plates in the Rogue and Pendlay Elites competition are used by SuperFit . Tolerances difference in weight thereof are so tight that you know you lift weights at the plate ... unlike the super cheap brands ( a plate, sticker or other ), where the tolerances are in percentage rather than in grams .

If you have the money to spend on stickers plates ok , I'm sure whatever brand you buy , you'll be happy with them. While I will not comment , I still looked for the best prices online for all three brands for you to check if you are considering one of these options. Just click on the links on each name in the previous paragraph. (Please research prices. Below are the prices at the time of writing, and dig me on page 10 of Google with respect . )
